Winter Private Kayaking Lessons in the Pool!

Wet Exit/Self and Assisted Rescue, and Eskimo Roll Classes

Option One- Wet Exit/Self and Assisted Rescue Stand-Alone Class

This is an absolutely essential skill for every paddler to learn and feel confident with, and the heated pool is an ideal place to build up that confidence!  This class is 1.5 hours long and will give you plenty of time to become comfortable hanging upside-down in your boat so you can thoughtfully, carefully, and safely get yourself out of your boat.  You will also learn how to use a paddle float to safely re-enter your boat and get on your way, as well as learn assisted rescues with a partner.  Cost: $100 or $125 w/ boat rental.  Register here.

Option Two- Eskimo Roll—The Ultimate Self Rescue, Putting the upside-down world of kayaking right-side up!

Hip snap drills, torso rotation, paddle movements, muscle memory and perfect technique will be the focus of this 90-minute class. Rolling is an absolute blast and a great way to build confidence on the water. Starting out with an experienced instructor is key to developing proper habits. You're almost guaranteed to be a regular at the pool after this first class! Cost: $100 or $125 w/ boat rental.  Register here.

Option Three - Combo Course: Wet Exit/Self Rescue and the Eskimo Roll

Combine the above two classes for a discounted rate! Cost: $185 or $225 w/ boat rental.  Register here.

2012 Capital Campaign

For 2012, the Community Boating Center is undertaking our most substantial fundraising effort to date.  Our goal: to bring modern, fun and safe boating equipment to Bellingham Bay.  Our goals include:

  • a fleet of sailing keelboats for classes, rentals and racing
  • a fleet of modern sailing dinghies
  • a uniform fleet of 14 kayaks in different lengths
  • a quiver of 10 Stand-Up Paddleboards

Of course, our efforts will support programming with new classes and youth programs, allowing more of the community to experience the fun of boating in Bellingham!

If you like where we’re headed and you would like to support our initiative, please consider helping us kick off our campaign.  Donations are tax deductible and are a great way of supporting the sports that you love.  To donate, click on the “Donate Now” link on the right side of this page, or send a check payable to CBC to:
