Mercy Housing x Sterling Meadows

Sterling Meadows Farm & Fish Worker Community Apartments is a Mercy Housing project located in North Bellingham. Mercy Housing is redefining affordable, low-income housing as a national nonprofit organization that is working to build a more humane world. Specifically, Sterling Meadows provides affordable housing for local families who work in agriculture and fisheries industries, many of whom are primarily Spanish-speaking.

This season, Director of Education & Outreach Sara Welsh, with the help of our Marine Science Interns, began hosting a weekly program at Sterling Meadows to engage the community’s kids in environmental and marine learning. Kids were then invited to attend a week-long summer camp to experience Bellingham Bay! We look forward to expanding this program and reaching even more underserved youth in Bellingham.

“The Community Boating Center is truly dedicated to making the beauty and joy of maritime recreation accessible for the kids and families living at Sterling Meadows. Staff from the CBC came to Sterling Meadows once a week during the spring and summer to lead educational programs for the students living here. The CBC also made it possible for a number of Sterling Meadows students to participate in week-long summer camps at the CBC’s waterfront location. I am grateful for our partnership with the CBC and am looking forward to another spring and summer of fantastic programming.”
