Essentials of Coastal Rowing

12 Hour Course; Six 2-hour Sessions

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to glide across the water like those skimmer bugs? Well this is as close as it gets!
This class will introduce the basic skills required to safely row a sliding seat coastal rowboat by yourself. Students will learn about the proper rowing techniques, setting up the equipment and capsize recovery maneuvers. In addition to cold water safety, weather and conditional awareness and on-the-water communication.
Completing this class gives you the skills needed to rent our Sliding Seat Rowboats! Practicing a capsize is optional in the class but is mandatory to pass the Skills Test, which is required for independent use of the boats.

Prerequisites: None; we will teach and provide everything you’ll need!

Next Step: Connect with the local racing circuit or rent a boat and explore on your own!

Private Rowing Lessons

$60 per hour for one person

$40 per hour for each additional person

Private lessons are for one or two people. You choose between rowing an individual boat or a tandem boat with our instructor or your partner. The CBC has three Wherry sliding seat row boats, two are set up for individual rowing and the third is convertible between a single and double. These boats are stable in the water and great for learning how to row. For more advanced lessons, we also have an Echo rowing shell which is narrower and faster. Private lessons are customized to meet the needs of every student. We can accommodate both beginners and intermediate rowers. Cost per hour is $60 for an individual or $100 for two. There is a 90 minute minimum on your first lesson. Lessons are booked around your schedule and instructor availability.
