Thank You to our Webcam Sponsors!

Peter Marcus, regarded by many as the heartbeat of the local paddling community, made a significant donation to sustain the CBC Webcams prior to his untimely death from cancer in January 2023.  This generous act was completely consistent with Peter’s humanitarian nature.  He organized the Paddle-4-Food relays that raised over $150,000 for the food bank during the last two decades.  He paddled in cancer fundraisers, including some lasting 24 hours!  He was a respected water-sports coach of youth and adults.  He was a superstar organizer of training sessions on Lake Whatcom and the Bay, boat parades, film festivals, and competitions.  His signature event, held at the Community Boating Center, was the Bellingham Bay Rough Water Race.  Each spring, this gathering of small-watercraft mariners marked the true start of the local boating season.  The race has appropriately been renamed the Peter Marcus Rough Water Race.  Known for championing efforts to support others, Peter was also an elite-class athlete.  He amassed a boatload of top-tier race finishes regionally and around the Pacific Rim in outrigger canoes and high-performance kayaks, always spreading the joy and fun of paddling during his journeys.

Thank you Peter for your much-appreciated gift.  And thank you for being such a gift to your community.  You are remembered fondly and greatly missed.
