Black Jack: An African American Mariner Cruising the Inside Passage with Clyde Ford
Join us on May 8th from 7:00pm–9:00pm at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal, where acclaimed author and mariner Clyde Ford will share his experiences cruising the Inside Passage as an African American mariner over the past 35 years.
Through a dynamic Google Earth 3D presentation, Ford will trace the routes he has traveled, highlight the hazards he has faced, and showcase the extraordinary beauty he has encountered along the way. He will also explore the little-known history of Black mariners in the nineteenth century, known as “Black Jacks.”This evening is not only a chance to hear Ford’s inspiring story — it’s an opportunity to imagine and support a future where more BIPOC individuals can create their own journeys of exploration, connection, and adventure on the water.
Funds raised through this event will directly support partnership program with The Bronze Chapter! Together we are expanding access to maritime spaces for communities historically excluded from them.
Come be part of honoring the past, celebrating the present, and helping shape a more inclusive future on our waters.
